“Hoboken! Oooooh I’m dying…” -Bugs Bunny

Zylo Restaurant Hoboken NJMy friends Art and Alice called me last week to tell me that they were just in Hoboken and absolutely loved the restaurant I was going to be shooting in. It was beautiful and the food was outrageous. Boy were they right – at least about the beautiful part. I never tasted the food but I will take their word on it. The food looked delicious.  This may be a great restaurant to eat in but, a tough place to work in – especially when I was scheduled for noon and a last minute birthday party was arriving at 12:15. As usual, I was there early to set up so I was able to get about a 1/2 hour of shooting in.

Zylo Restaurant Hoboken NJ After a couple of shots, they told me that the party was arriving and I would have to move out of that area. I felt like I was dying. Did I get any good shots of this gorgeous place? The room was so nice that I wished that I had 2 hours to shoot it. As it turns out, I did get some really nice shots – sometimes I even surprise myself 🙂

Then I had to shoot the food. Unfortunately, I was set up in the same room as the party. I hope that my equipment, wires and constant flashes didn’t disturb them too much. There were lots of kids running around but, they didn’t really get in the way. We shot several dishes and one humongous steak – T-Bone I think. Completely covered with chocolate with a white cream, white  chocolate and coffee ice cream-absolute torture (I’m diabetic.) Then another dessert came out – even more beautiful

than the previous one…It was just about then when I quoted Bugs – “Hoboken! Ooooh I’m dying again.”

About Jerry

I was a science teacher for 31 years. During that time I photographed wedding and Bar Mitzvahs for about 15 years but that was in the days before digital. Being a teacher, I had my summers free so I assisted food and commercial still life photographers in NYC for 3 summers and fell in love with it. Having a wife and a mortgage, it was not practical to give up a job in teaching and go into photography so I put off my dream of becoming a food photographer until I retired from teaching. Now I am living my dream - I am a food and product photographer servicing New York City, Philadelphia and all of New Jersey.
